From Gordonsville or Not From Gordonsville - Does that really matter?

I started this blog so that I could share the issues on how my child was treated by the system. This blog isn’t about who our families are, where we are from or what we have done in our pasts as educators, principals, coaches, parents, etc….. This is about the injustice our family feels they have received and the way our daughter was treated in this situation. All three of our children have all attended Gordonsville, we support the Tigers and we are proud to be members of this community.

So please when you read my blog remember this is about a child that was dismissed from a activity because the school system decided to hear one side of the story. There was never any investigation done, I know because at no point during this 9 month fight has one person talked to our child. How can you do a investigation without talking to the victim?

A child only gets a small window of their life for high school memories and we feel that the school system has let her down and busted that window. This activity isn’t our child’s whole life but it was a big part of it. It is so important to keep the children in our community involved in sports and activities so they can stay active and busy. I feel that a lot of school systems have forgotten that and the schools aren’t there for our children and community any longer. My fight might make people mad but if I don’t stand up for my child and fight the system no one will. If my stand makes even one small change it was all worth it and I hope it will give other children, parents and taxpayers the strength to stand up for what they believe in.

  1. The school and these two ladies made this personal. You have alot of readers. Youre blog is being followed by the halls of GHS. Fight, stay focused and make things right.

  3. You stated this was the principals resolution. Just because you don't agree how he handled it doesn't make it wrong. Have you tired to talk to him again?

  4. ghsfan if the only resolution was to make this child sit out a year then why would they want to talk to him again. maybe the next talk they could suspend the child for the rest of school. after reading this do you agree it was handled right?

  6. I would still like to know why nothing has been done to this teacher? There were witnesses to her grabbing students (uncluding school administration), not to mention the other issues with her. Why won't the school system look into this and DO something. I am so sick of everything being swept under the rug at this school. There is a mountain under that rug, but getting any support from the director of schools seems to be just a big joke.

  7. This is a huge mess! The school system is breaking the law by not handleing this the proper way. Look at this website: http://www.familyequality.org/resources/publications/anti-bullying_withcitations.pdf
It clearly states that the state of Tennessee passed an anti-bullying law in 2005. I highly doubt that the detailed law says that the child should be the one punished for the teachers wrong doing. What is the point in having such laws if they are only applied to certain people? It is most definatley not about where you are from, it is about obeying the law, which are created for situations such as this one! I will continue to follow your blog, in hopes that this will reciebe the proper attention that is deserves.

  8. I have a daughter that was a cheerleader at GHS and I can tell you right now you are a better person than me for holding your temper. I would have already grabbed someone myself. And as far as students being treated fairly, I can tell you first handed that is a line of crap - and it goes all the way to the guidance office. My daughter was not in the top ten of her class so when it came time for help with applying for college - none was there. A lot of people can say what they want to, but those people who choose not to admit favortism are probably related to the officials in the school system. Most people in this county know that - they just choose not to bring it forward. I think what you are doing is appropriate and I hope the word gets out. The sad thing about this entire situation is that your daughter is probably suffering more than any of us will ever know and you can't turn back time. I still have a daughter yet to go thru this High School and she wants to be a cheerleader, but I don't know if I will allow her to even try if this is the kind of leadership that is going to be around. School is supposed to teach and learn and help our children, but I guess not at this one.

  10. If you are in this county you know how they sweep things under the rug. Lewis rules with fear and intimidation. The teacher is from here so of course she is in the right. She is also young another thing Lewis likes. They think if you ignore it long enough it goes away or people will just give up. The only way this kid will see justice is for the law to become involved. . What are our kids learning, if you know someone it dosen't matter what you do? If you complain it dosen't matter unless you are so in so. That who you are mattters more than if someone follows the rules. That the rules don't apply to all, only when Mr. Lewis and his followers want them to apply and to who they want them applied to. Mr. Lewis and Mrs. Fox dropped the ball, or better yet tried to hide it. What kind of supervisor do we have that would recomend for a parent to move their kid to another school if they have a problem. What does this say about her? Why would she not want the problem resolved? Why would it be better to uproot a child and move her across county to another school instead of fixing the problem. Why is it easier to push a kid around instead of looking into the problem and working out a solution. The schools are suspose to benifit the kids how would it benefit a child to disrupt them form thier school instead of acting on a request for an investigation. Why can't they do what is right and follow the rules and investigate??? KEEP GOING !! Your child needs justice not only for her, but for all the others in this county. Who aren't so and so kids.
