Here is a section of the Smith County Board of Education Family and Community Engagement Requirements and Options 2007-2008 that I found interesting:

Our goal is to build a strong partnership between the school, home and community which is essential for a quality educational program. The Smith County School District is dedicated to actively recruiting all parents and community members to be involved in the education of our students. The purpose of this plan is to increase and improve the involvement of family members in their children’s education, to set expectations for everyone in the district concerning the involvement necessary for the success of our students, and to have a vision of what has to be in place for there to be quality family involvement for the entire district.

Below is a message I received from a blogger signed Jen:
Take part in your school systems. It shows your children – through your actions - that you place a high emphasis on their education, enough so that you are willing to help make it even better. Studies show that children of involved parents generally have higher grades and test scores, better attendance, and higher rates of completed homework. - Jen
very few policies listed on the boe website they must not want to put to much out there. where is the board member page? where are the emails to contact? only gives us the basics or what they want us to read.
ReplyDeleteIf the school is allowing a student of involved parents to be treated this way imagine what they are doing to the kids of parents that never come to school. Parents need to be involved in all levels of our schools to make sure not only your kids but all kids are treated fair. Get involved.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing that no media has pick up on this. Of course it won't be in the local paper, they too are probably afraid of the great Lewis. Why didn't they report on the other lawsuit going to court? Why haven't they reported on the other suits that have been filed? Is Lewis running them too?
ReplyDeleteLewis is a bigwig and the old board members are running interference for him. What can the paper say? Here is another lawsuit? How many are there now? 5 or 6 and how many waiting to be filed 3 or 4? Something needs to be done and fast! Lewis and his pals are ruining this school system. The people he has put in place are just doing his bidding, they don't follow the rules either. They go right along either out of fear or worship of Lewis.
ReplyDeleteOh come on you can't believe he has that kind of power. The school system yes but not with the paper. Maybe they haven't been told. They report facts, no lawsuit filed nothing to report on.
ReplyDeleteI want to know why the tv stations aren't up here? A system with this many problems and lawsuits. You know where there is smoke there is fire. This would make a great story. Parents have a problem with a school employee and they have a door slamed in their face and another supervisor tells them to move their kid to another school. But by all means lets not look into the problem. Sounds like a good story to me.
ReplyDeleteHelp me understand this...
ReplyDeleteFirst the teacher grabs & shoves a student, discloses person information to other team members and their parents. Second the school discriminates against her, retaliates against her, and changes the very rules they wrote to force this child to sit out a year. Third the district supervisor tells them to move their child to another school and enroll her in classes in another county to keep her involved. Lastly the director of schools slams the door in their face. Ghs parent you shouldn’t be sitting at a school board meeting, you should be sitting with your attorney preparing to sue the school, district and teacher. This story amazes me, where are our board members, why aren’t they helping this family?
Does anyone have a list of all the school board members with phone numbers? No google information and it isn't on the SCBOE site.
ReplyDeleteAugust 2008 board minutes: Presented by the Superintendent, passed by our School Board.
ReplyDelete2008-2009 Student Disciplinary Hearing Authority Members includes co-chairperson Mark Medley. He sits over the students of our school district but is unwilling to resolve an issue in his own school?
APOLIGIZE! I am blown away that a teacher is so arrogant to believe she is above the law, rules and policies. Does she believe she is untouchable or is that what Lewis, Fox and GHS are telling her? This family asked for an apology, their daughter to be reinstated and you are slamming doors in their face? Our administration is acting like children that don’t want to admit they are wrong. Grow up you are spending our tax dollars. Make the teacher apologize so this little girl can go on with her life. Has the best interest of the child even been considered?
ReplyDeleteI found this on the New Middleton Blog. It has most of the board members. People need to be ringing their phones off the hook nad filling their mail boxes with letters. These old members who are just there to do Lewis' dirty work need to go. If they aren't going to stand up for the kids and the people who elected them they need to get out. Look who is serving New Middleton and Gordonsville. Do they ever speak up about the problems going on there???? If not what is there purpose on the board?? Are they serving the people or Lewis and Fox???
